Setup
Headset App
Install the MoltenVR headset app on Meta Quest or PICO, pair it with your Mac once, and browse and launch your games from inside VR.The MoltenVR headset app is what you run on your Quest or PICO. It receives the stream from your Mac, sends tracking and controller input back, and puts your game library in VR so you can pick a game without reaching for the Mac.
Supported headsets
| Headset | Status |
|---|---|
| Meta Quest 3 | Supported, MoltenVR's reference headset |
| Meta Quest 3S | Supported |
| Meta Quest 2 | Supported |
| Meta Quest Pro | Supported |
| PICO 4 / PICO 4 Ultra | Experimental, PICO OS 5.9 or newer |
Install it
Plug the headset into your Mac
Use a USB-C data cable. On a Quest, Developer Mode must be on so the Mac can install apps, and the headset asks you to Allow USB debugging the first time. Put it on and accept.
Install from MoltenVR
In MoltenVR, go to Settings → Headsets → Install on headset. The same button updates the app later.
Pair it
Open the MoltenVR app on the headset. It looks for your Mac over USB, Bonjour and the local network. Pair once with the PIN shown on the Mac and the headset remembers it. Settings → Headsets on the Mac lists paired headsets and can forget them.
Play from the headset
Your library shows up in VR. Browse, launch a game, and when it quits you are back in the library, all without taking the headset off.
Changing stream settings mid-game doesn't disconnect you: the new resolution, refresh rate or codec applies and you drop straight back in.
ALVR mode
If you already use ALVR's headset client, MoltenVR Pro can stream to it in ALVR mode. The MoltenVR headset app is the recommended way to play, and the one these docs describe.
