Setup
Wi-Fi Streaming
Configure wireless PCVR streaming from your Mac to your VR headset over a 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi network using MoltenVR and ALVR.Wi-Fi streaming lets you play PCVR games without any cable between your Mac and headset. MoltenVR requires no extra dependencies for wireless mode — there is no ADB or additional tooling to install. As long as your Mac and headset are on the same local network, you can stream wirelessly.
Network setup
Connect your Mac to a 5 GHz or 6 GHz network
On your Mac, open System Settings → Wi-Fi and join a 5 GHz or 6 GHz network (Wi-Fi 5 / Wi-Fi 6 / Wi-Fi 6E). If your router broadcasts separate SSIDs for each band, pick the 5 GHz or 6 GHz one explicitly.
Connect your headset to the same network
Inside the headset, go to Settings → Wi-Fi and join the exact same network as your Mac. Both devices must be on the same local network.
Start streaming
Click Start Stream in MoltenVR, put your headset on, and open the ALVR app. Launch a game from the Games screen to begin playing.
Wi-Fi vs. USB
| Wi-Fi | USB | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | No extra tools needed | Requires android-platform-tools + Developer Mode |
| Latency | Slightly higher | Lowest possible |
| Bandwidth | Varies with environment | Consistent 100 Mbps |
| Freedom of movement | Cable-free | Limited by cable length |
Wi-Fi is the easier option to get started with, while USB is preferable for competitive or fast-paced titles where every millisecond matters.
